About data registration

1.       Name, surname:  registered in chronological order – the old name first, the changed name; the same in case of married women: name before marriage first, husband’s name afler;
2.       Assumed status: party member, sympathizer, Communist Youth Organization member – as it was mentioned by subject himself;
3.       Date of birth: day, month, years (whenever it was possible)
4.       Place of birth:
For county – according to interwar administrative division (counties of interwar Romania).
EG1: București, Ilfov County;
EG2: Lugoj, Timiș-Torontal County.
Country: in what country was the town/village in the year of the subject’s birth.
EG 1: born at 1908, in Ismail. Country: Tzarist Empire;
EG 2: born at 1920, in Békés, Country: Romania (in 1920, Békés belong Romania)
5.       Urban/rural ratio: administrative status of locality in the year of the subject’s birth
6.       Historical region of Romania, as bellow:
Muntenia, with the next counties: Argeș, Teleorman, Muscel, Dâmbovița, Vlașca, Ilfov, Prahova, Ialomița, Brăila, Buzău, Râmnicu Sărat.
Moldova: Putna, Tecuci, Covurlui, Bacău, Tutova, Fălciu, Neamț, Roman, Vaslui, Baia, Iași, Botoșani.
Bucovina: Storojineț, Cernăuți, Dorohoi, Suceava, Rădăuți, Câmpulung.

7.      Ethnicity: as it was assumed by the subject. Cases of obvious mistakes were marked with “?”
8.      Profession: it was used the social status, as it was described by Marxist ideology, resulting the following division: worker, poor peasant, intellectual. Because of historical reasons and according to Romanian interwar working laws, we added a new category – civil and private servants – well represented in those times.
When the subject mentioned, we registered the specialization also.
EG: worker/baker; intellectual/medicine doctor; private servant/accountant
In case of workers, sometime is difficult to establish if the subject was employer or employee.
EG: When the subject wrote “shoemaker”, he can be a worker, but he also could be the manufactory’s owner.
